Hair of the dog

Hopefully the last we'll ever hear from that wretched beast.

Happy when it rains

Proof that being daft needn't harm a good marketing idea.

Shock as Cadbury uses gorilla advertising

C'mon, of course I was going to feature this. It's got a freakin' monkey in it, and it's about chocolate. What's not to like?
Friday evening saw the passing of the latest series of that moronic waste of time, Big Brother, but it also heralded the breaking of this ad by Fallon and Publicis (please - no accusations of favouritism here from those who know me), with a nice piss-take of Dad Rock. I particularly liked Brand Republic's header for this story "Cadbury risks Phil Collins revival with gorilla drummer", but I also like the tacit acknowledgement that this brand is enjoyed by blokes as well as women. In the past, Dairy Milk's advertising has been either feminine or gender neutral. This is an ad for lads of the Nuts generation. Seemingly pointless, but funny.
Campaign's Private View is gonna hate it.

Amateur signage adjustment

More mischief from b3ta. These fellows are indulging in a touch of unsolicited rebranding. The company's real name is "Wacker". Explanation here.

Snappy marketing

I love this below the waterline campaign for a zoo in Germany. "Come to the zoo before the zoo comes to you." It's the look of embarrassment on the mutt's face that makes it work for me.

Best litter in the world

I'm peeved that I missed this - both the story and a chance to encounter this litter on the streets of London. Back in April the Independent reported how Saatchi & Saatchi scattered £1,500-worth of cash around the capital, each note with this cheeky Carlsberg sticker. I wonder if any pavements near pubs were picked?

Madanarchy in the UK

I know it's bad form to write two different stories in a single post, but I'm feeling lazy. Besides, they are both linked - both appeared in last night's Evening Standard (London's evening newspaper).
This one explains itself - it's a beauty. More's the pity that I can't find a decent pic of the Weeping Madonna of Shoreditch, but from this poor image it appears that the vandals did a cracking job.
Madonna's getting rather tiresome. I lost interest in her when she murdered the last James Bond soundtrack (Pierce Brosnan's final outing) and "acted" in the movie.

A gang of anarchists have been replacing the street benches uprooted by a London council, and have been sneakily planting trees and flowers in neglected public places. In my day, anarchists wore red scarves over their faces, didn't wash, and threw babies at policemen.
It's good to see they've become more benign - but they're not imaginative enough. I wonder if there are any anarchist-friendly brands out there who could sponsor these guys?
